Abstract, cosmic, crunchy, crusty, spacey, noisy free improvisational experimental electronic music created with classic analog synthesizers, such as Moog Voyager RME, Moog Rogue, Moog MG-1, MicroMoog, Octave Cat, Moog Etherwave Theremin, Little Boy Blue, and Yamaha CS-50, and Moogerfooger effects. Listening to The Analog Synthesizer Ensemble is like taking trips through outer and inner space. Black hole tripping.

The Analog Synthesizer Ensemble's April 5, 2008 recording session

Gainesville, Florida

On Saturday afternoon, April 5, 2008, the new lineup of The Analog Synthesizer Ensemble (Hal McGee, Jay Peele, and K. Paul Boyev) gathered at McGee's apartment in Gainesville, Florida, for the first home studio recording session of The Ensemble since July 2007. Later that night The Analog Synthesizer Ensemble performed at Action Research show #19 at the Civic Media Center.

Jay Peele (aka Fiver's Stereo, from Jacksonville) brought his MicroMoog synth, Danelectro PB&J Delay, and Boss Heavy Metal Distortion pedal, Vox Wah pedal, as well as Steim Cracklebox (which he played on the last, 30-minute jam of the afternoon session). He also played McGee's Moog Rogue throughout the session. Peele and McGee recorded three tracks before Boyev arrived - you will get to hear these recordings later. K. Paul Boyev (aka Otolathe, from Tampa) brought his Moog Voyager Rack Mount Edition analog synth, Moog VX-351 and VX-352 Voyager Expanders, the Frostwave spaceBEAM (with which he controlled the RME), and a Novation X-Station MIDI keyboard (also used as a controller for the Voyager). McGee used his Moog Voyager RME (with a M-Audio Radium 49 MIDI keyboard as a controller for it), Little Boy Blue (custom black edition) analog synth (by Flower Electronics), Moog Etherwave Standard Theremin (on the fourth jam of the afternoon), Moog MF-102 Ring Modulator, Moog MF-104Z Analog Delay, and Danelectro FAB Metal distortion pedal.

We recorded about 90 minutes of new material that day - five tracks in the afternoon session and a good 15-minute recording from the live show in the evening.
